Those who have known me for a while scoff when I say this, but: I’m a naturally shy person. And I’ve always had difficulty expressing myself verbally, particularly when I was younger. Somewhere between my brain and my mouth, maybe I was missing a connecting wire, or maybe I just had an overworked self-sensory trigger, and thoughts would fail to translate into coherent sentences.
My three passions: writing, fashion and music, have given me a way to express myself without saying a word.
As a fashion follower, it’s my belief that life is a runway, whether or not a person realizes they’re walking it. So many people I know feel like there’s “a time” to dress up, or it’s “weird” to go to the grocery store NOT in flip-flops or Uggs, or that wearing something other than sweatpants and a tee-shirt to wrangle kids while in line at Cost-co is impractical and takes too much effort. One of my biggest goals in life is to show people that looking your best and feeling amazing isn’t as time consuming, difficult, or unrealistic as one might think. All it takes is some imagination, knowledge of different bodies and lifestyles. and style savvy – none of which I have any problem imparting on others.
The concept behind Blank Chic is the idea that fashion isn’t necessarily dictated by the fashion powers that be. Even looking at the four fashion capitals (New York, London, Milan and Paris), each city has a decidedly different aesthetic. What London is loving isn’t always poppin’ in Paris. In Milan alone, you have the classic Armani… and you have Versace (no adjectives needed, if you follow designers). There’s just too much selection, even in the world of high fashion, that nothing can ever really be “in” and nothing can ever really be “out.” Rather, it’s ____-chic. Hippie chic, rebel chic, Oakland chic, SoCal chic, Game-of-Thrones chic… every style has its significance, and its place – the one exception being if you’re rolling around town in a look similar to pajama pants, hoodies, crocs or Uggs, and a damn Louis Vuitton speedy… that’s zero effort, -18 style, and severe misuse of designer goods (brands alone don’t equate style!). THAT is the ONLY place the line is drawn.
Wishing you nothing less than your fashionable best,
XO,
Coco Zoe

The founder of this website has adopted the moniker “Coco Zoe” because it is (1)at once both less common and more universal than her REAL name, and (2) a great way to disguise ownership of this blog in the worst case scenario that it will embarrass anyone related to her who may or may not share her undisclosed last name.
Coco Zoe would like to thank Ann M. Martin, creator of the “Baby Sitters Club” series, her 10th grade IB English teacher, Mr. Gamez, and whoever decided to provide the lyrics to all of Mariah Carey’s songs on her CD liners for her extensive vocabulary.
She would also like to thank her parents, for the frequent weekend trips since early childhood to the Chula Vista Public Library AND to the Plaza Bonita mall; for passing along their valedictorian and real valedictorian salutatorian brilliance down the gene pool; and for their support and patience while she decided “what to do with her life.”
Breath taking…
